Contact Boards to Site More Synthetic Turf Fields, Fundraising Ideas Wanted, RosterPro Experts

Raise Visibility of the Need for More Synthetic Turf Fields: The one thing this spring has taught us is our good fortune in having a synthetic turf field for high school, adult, and youth soccer league play. However, when you see everyone who shares that field and know that for all but the weekend of May 3-4, Gunston was the only field being used in Arlington this month, we must have more of those fields. A fairly lengthy process is underway to determine how best to choose the location of a second synthetic turf field. The County has funding to build it, but needs some encouragement from the community in doing so quickly. Please contact both the County Board (countyboard@co.arlington.va.us) and the School Board (schoolbd@arlington.k12.va.us) and urge them to install more synthetic turf fields as quickly as possible. Ask for a field to be available this fall, but realistically it will be spring, 2004. Parents, please suggest to the Boards your ideas for locations that would best serve the Arlington community, but be mindful that it needs to be a full-sized field for maximum use. The most-discussed location is TJ Lower or an expanded TJ Upper, but think about possibilities in North Arlington as well. Not only are these fields cost-effective over the long term, but they allow our kids to get out and play soccer when all the grass fields are closed. Please communicate while the repeated game cancellations are still fresh in your minds, and use your own examples of games rescheduled away or during the week, etc. Let's convince our elected officials how important Gunston has been in its one year of operation.
Give Us Your Fundraising Ideas: We're adding an attachment to the revised Manager's Manual on Team Fundraising Ideas. Since I'm new and don't know what many of you have done for fundraising, please provide me the following: the fundraising ideas you've tried, how much money you've raised, how much time it took (approximately), any significant start up costs, and whether you recommend it for other teams. Please add your tips and strategies for making these fundraisers successful. Thanks in advance for your ideas.
Calling All RosterPro Experts: We'll soon be adding a new group of managers to our Club. We'll be educating them at our July 1 New Managers meeting, but as you all know, mastering the RosterPro process sometimes requires an additional review. I'm compiling a list of managers who would be willing to serve as ad-hoc experts to new managers when they're stumped by RosterPro. A couple of you are my own personal RosterPro experts, but I would like to have a list of managers that wouldn't mind a phone call now and then from a manager with a question.
