ATSC Teams Finish Strong in Memorial Day Tournaments

U9 Boys Champions of the Gold Division, U9 Girls Champions of the Silver Division, U10 Strikers Red Finalists. In the Colonial Cup in Richmond, U12 Girls Finalists in the Bronze Division, U13 Boys Generals are Finalists in the Silver Division. U14 Boys Premier Champions, U15 Girls Pride Finalists at the Potomac Memorial tournament.

The U9 Boys Impact Red won their Gold division in a hard fought championship game 3-0 over Clarkstown 98 from NY.   At the half the score was 0-0. With 5 minutes left in the second half, the boys put together a solid set of combinations on a corner kick and a break away bringing the score to 2-0.  A final shot at the Clarkston goalie in the waning minutes brought the score to 3-0.  The New York-based Clarkstown team had beaten all its opponents by a cumulative 16-4 and was the team to beat. Impact Red Team players Jake, George, Myles, Daniel, Sam, Roger, Pessi, Jack, Will, Eliot, Kerry and goalie Daniel H. fought a tough match under coaches TJ White, Mike Woods and Steve Olivarez and led the division with 19 goals for and 7 against. 

The U9 Girls Rowdies Blue win in the finals 4-0 over LMVSC Patriots and were undefeated  this weekend in the Virginian.  The Rowdies scored 18 goals by 8 different players earning victories over BRYC Breeze, CYA White Lightning, ABGC X-Treme White, SYC Pride White and LMVSC Patriots.  The championship match vs a physical Patriots team was scoreless after the first half of play but the hard-charging Rowdies put three quick goals in the net in the first five minutes of the second half to put the match out of reach.  All of the Rowdies girls gave their best efforts over the hot tournament weekend and earned this 2nd tournament victory in as many seasons.  The Blue team players are: Rachel, Sophie, Sarah, Annie, Tara, Bryn, Kate, Ariana, Jordan and guest players from Rowdies Red, Catie and Gabby.  The Rowdies are coached by Jerry Ellison and Lauren Harris.  Congratulations Rowdies on a job well done!

The Arlington Strikers Red U10 boys captured second place in the Blue Division of the Colonial Cup Tournament held in Richmond, Virginia, over Memorial Day weekend.  The Strikers finished the tournament with three wins over PASA Vipers, Chantilly Cobras, and FC Richmonod PDP, and a loss to the evential champion SOCA R22 Metro Stars from Charlottesville, Virginia.  The Strikers Red players are Aiden, Chris, Danny, Isaac, Jacobo, Jensen, Jeremy, John, Kevin, and Michael.  The Strikers Red are coached by Ariel Fernandez.

The U12 Girls Explosion Blue finished second in the Virginian in the Bronze division.  Due to a rain out on Sunday evening the team advanced to the finals after a PK shootout on Monday morning.   The team had a solid performance by the 5 kickers and credit their keeper with a terrific performance.  The team lost in the final 1-0 to SYC Hurricanes.  http://www.atsc-va.org/Teams/explosionblue/index_E.html

The U13 Boys Generals reached the finals but lost a close one to the Kirkwood Ajax 1-0. 

The U14 Boys Premier 92 win 2-0 over Samba TTP in a very competitive game in the Adidas Potomac Memorial Tournament Chesapeake Division.  The Premier took the lead in the 19th minute when Ozias McKenzie played a ball through to Nick Smirniotopoulos, who created a 1v1 to score.  The second goal was scored in the 44th minute when Taylor Kohler crossed the ball to Alex Michell who headed it into the goal.  This is the Premier 92’s second tournament final this season but their first tournament victory.  The team is coached by Tom Torres.

Th U15 Girls Pride reached the finals of the Adidas Potomac Memorial Tournament. Their tournament record was 3-1-1 and scored 10 goals while conceding 7. The Laurel Lightning (WAGS D1) defeated the Pride 3-0 in the championship game.
