Kicking off this Spring tournament with an early morning game in sub-freezing temperatures, Flame tied its first game 1-1 against the Reston Rapids ‘95. In the next two games, Flame stepped it up to advance to the championship with two shut-outs -- a 1-0 win against the McLean Fury White and a 5-0 victory against Beach FC Piranhas Elite. By kick-off time of the final match, temperatures were a much more pleasant 60 degrees and the Flame was ‘on its game,’ closing out the tournament with a 3-1 win against the Chantilly Revolution ‘95, and bringing home the championship. Way to go Flame!
ATSC’s U12G Ajax collected a Finalist trophy this weekend in Richmond at the Jefferson Cup. Competing in the 4th most prestigious girls’ soccer tournament in the nation, the Ajax girls played scintillating football through the group stage posting victories against Salisbury (MD), Anne Arundel (MD), and Portsmouth (VA), and into the Championship match with Freestate (MD). Ajax were remarkably unlucky not to have opened the scoring before Freestate broke the ice early in the second half with a speculative strike from distance before doubling their lead in the last minute as Ajax pressed for the equalizer. Congrats to all the players and cheers to all the supporters on a tremendous weekend at Jefferson Cup!
