Grant Smith, Arlington Travel Soccer Club's Director of Coaching, holds a USSF National B license. He has coached for ten years, including youth teams from several local travel clubs and as an assistant coach with the University of Virginia women's varsity, before joining Arlington Travel Soccer. He currently also serves as a Virginia Youth Soccer Association ODP and State Team Coach. On the field, Grant played for McLean and BRYC youth clubs and was an All-District, All-Region, All-Metropolitan, All-State and All-American player for McLean High School. He played for the University of Virginia and for the Virginia Spartans Professional Soccer Team.
In his letter to ATSC coaches upon accepting the DOC position in July, 2002, Grant said: "My number one goal will be to do everything I can to assist our coaches in the development of our soccer players. This will be done through ... a steady stream of clinics, workshops and training sessions designed and implemented by professional players and coaches to help improve the level of play and coaching within the Club. I think it is important to continue to be a 'student of the game' and will provide our staff with new coaching styles and techniques to expand their soccer knowledge."
