Coach Barlow begins his 16th consecutive season with the Arlington Travel Soccer Club in the fall of 2008. Since 2001 he has also coached for the
Sidwell Friends high school boys’ programs in Washington, DC (ranked #3 in Washington Post for fall 2007). In the summer of 2004, Coach Barlow coached an under 15 girls’ team representing the U.S.A. (P2P) in the
Haarlem Cup at the World Friendship Games in Holland. Coach Barlow also spent three years (2004-06) as a volunteer assistant coach for Marymount University’s men’s program as well as joining the Virginia Northern District
ODP coaching staff in the fall of 2006. In the summer of 2007, he worked as a member of the DC United Youth Academy U13 boys coaching staff helping them become champions of Mid-Atlantic Group C and coached them at the National Finals in Tampa in November. Also in the summer of 2007, Coach Matt and the ATSC Legend travelled to Italy to participate in the
Valtellina Cup. Coach Barlow played collegiately at both Lynchburg College (2nd leading scorer as a soph.) and
Colby College (3rd leading scorer, senior year), where he received his B.A. with a major in International Studies and minor in Administrative Science. Coach Barlow lives with his wife Diana in Falls Church, VA.
Starting his second season with the Legend coaching staff in the fall of 2008 is
Coach George Shirley. Coach Shirley has been coaching for the past 5 years in ATSC, most recently as the head coach of the Warriors (NCSL D1). He holds the USSF D license and the NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma. He is also certified in First Aid, CPR and AED use. George is originally from Arlington and has served on the ATSC Board as well as currently being a part of the ATSC Coaches Committee.
In his first season, assisting the Legend on a part-time basis in the fall of 2008 is
Coach Tremaine Chinapoo. Tremaine is a senior at American University where he is a starting defender for their varsity squad. In High School Tremaine was named the Mid-Penn Conference Player of the Year and was named All-State and All-American in 2004.
