Atletica Red is always willing to consider dedicated, talented, competitive players with the work ethic, discipline, athleticism, and desire to play at the highest levels. Atletica competes in premier elite tournaments and plans on the Spirit United, WAGS, CASL Shootout, Arlington Spring Invitational, Jefferson Cup and FC Delco Players Cup among other events during the 2010-2011 season. Atletica is currently considering candidates for ALL positions. Atletica provides its goalkeepers with several team and Arlington Club sponsored training options.
We offer a positive and fun, yet highly competitive player development focused environment for our players. Atletica is professionally coached by Jerry Ellison, who holds the USSF "B" as well as the NSCAA National and Goalkeeping Diplomas. Jerry has been coaching youth players in Virginia for over 20 years and coaching in Arlington for 13 years. Jerry is currently a Northern District Staff coach for the VYSA ODP Girls side and has been on staff since 2003. Most recently, Jerry has served as Age Group Head Coach for the 1997 Arlington girls, which have been among the top 5 teams in VA in their age group.
Atletica is also trained by several distinguished professional coaches including 2005 VYSA Coach of the Year - Gayle Smith Wilson (USSF A license, VYSA ODP State Staff, Marymount University Head Coach), 2003 New Mexico State Coach of the Year - Ann Cernicek (USSF A license, VYSA ODP Staff, Washington Lee HS Head Coach), Tom Torres (USSF A license, VYSA ODP Staff, Westfield HS Head Coach), and Greg Denkler (team coach for Nationally ranked 1991 girls VISTA Shockwave), a goalkeeper specialist.
As part of the Arlington Travel Soccer Club,
Atletica have a wide-range of resources at our disposal. We play on the best fields in Virginia where Arlington features the highest concentration of premier Field Turf surfaces per capita in the US. The availability of these fields allow us to stage several scrimmages and friendlies throughout the year, several camps throughout the summer, and in-season functional and technical training with our club’s most experienced coaches. We train through the winter at our local indoor Field Turf facility as well as at Marymount University where a comprehensive futsal program is available to us. We host the
Arlington Spring Invitational Soccer Tournament (ASIST), a PLATINUM rated [GotSoccer] event which serves as a warm-up to the Jefferson Cup. [In 2007, the ASIST was the only event that played its entire schedule uninterrupted in spite of heavy snowfall, which cancelled nearly every other event in the region.] Arlington players and coaches benefit from an Adidas kit sponsorship. Lastly, we get to work with a first-rate coaching staff featuring several professionals with ODP, college, high school, and USSF A license coaching experience.
