For the first time in Dynamo competitive history, Dynamo walked away with the championship trophy in this year’s Virginian. Playing in the U13G Bronze division, the Dynamo proved that hard work and determination pays off in great rewards. In the first game, Dynamo prevailed 3-2 against an SYC club that has proved to be both a familiar and competitive foe. Dynamo had a 1-1-1 record against the Thunder in the fall, and lost in the finals at the October Battlefield Classic to this same squad. The second game was another tight one-goal victory, where Dynamo defeated ODSL rival FPYC by a score of 1-0. Over the course of the next two games, Dynamo gave an indication of their capabilities on both sides of the pitch. A 4-0 victory over Mclean highlighted Dynamo’s scoring proficiency and a 0-0 tie with Sterling was a hard-fought defensive battle. All of which set the stage for an exciting championship game against New York based Clarkstown.
After fighting to a 1-1 tie at half time, both teams played their hearts out though the second half and two overtime periods without a change in score, forcing the championship to be decided by PKs. At the end of a long, grueling, hot day—Dynamo prevailed by knocking home four of five PK’s, while the stalwart Dynamo goalkeeper rejected two powerful attempts by the Clarkstown girls. With the PK score ending 4-3 in Dynamo’s favor, the championship game was registered in the books as a 2-1 Dynamo championship game victory. Over the three-day, five-game tournament—the Dynamo were undefeated, with three shutouts, nine goals for and four goals against.
Congratulations to all the Dynamo on their first tournament victory ever. The 2009-2010 Dynamo are: Addison, Addie, Amelia, Anna, Donia, Elie, Emily, Eva, Jennifer, Kate, Kaleigh (The General), Katie, Libby, Lilly, Nicole, Olivia, and Reed. The Dynamo are ably coached by Papa Dia and Emily Trout.
