1. PROPER ATTIRE: The girls are expected to come to practice wearing their practice jersey, gym/work-out shorts, shin guards, cleats, soccer socks, and a pony tail. They also should bring a water bottle and a fully pumped ball. No skirts, jean shorts, or other t-shirts are acceptable. Also, the girls should NOT wear any part of their uniform kit to practice--no socks, shirts, or shorts. Those items are to be saved for game day. They can wear their ASA sweatshirts and sweat pants when it gets colder.
2. PRACTICES: The girls should be at practice, ready to play, 10 minutes before practice begins. When they arrive, they should put their bag down, grab their ball, and start juggling, practicing moves, or kicking with a friend. At Bluemont, the adult driver will need to walk the girls to the field (you can't see it from the parking lot) to drop them off. Also, the adult will need to walk to the field to pick them up. That way, we can be sure an adult is with the child at all times. At Fields Park, the coaches would prefer if you drive up next to the field and let your child run out of the car and onto the field. They are uncomfortable with the children crossing George Mason at that busy time of day.
3. BATHROOM: Please make sure your child uses the bathroom at home before practice. The only bathroom at Fields Park is across the street in the McDonalds. The only bathroom at Bluemont is in the pavillion, which is a fair distance from the field.
4. PARENT VOLUNTEER AT THE FIELD: The managers will prepare a roster for the entire team. The coaches would like the parent at the field to bring it to the practice so that they can contact the parents if necessary. The parent at the field should also be there 10 minutes early. Their job is to assist the coaches if someone is injured. They can also run kids to the bathroom. The parent at the field is also required to stay at the field until all of the kids have left--that is not the coaches job. If you have not signed up to be a parent at the field, please do so.
5. ATTENDANCE: Attendance at practices and games is now mandatory. The soccer season officially began on Monday 8/29 and practice is required. The coaches understand that vacation plans were made before the girls made travel soccer but expect next year that vacations will be planned around the soccer season.
6. INCLEMENT WEATHER: If thunder/lightning is predicted or storms look imminent, the carpool driver is expected to stay at or near the field during practice. If there is thunder or lightning, the coaches are required to immediately get the girls off the field. Both of our practice fields provide no shelter, so the girls are stuck in the storm until their driver comes. We will be setting up a phone notification system and can alert parents that practice is cancelled, but the coaches would prefer not to have the children on the field for 15-20 minutes during a storm while the parents travel to pick them up.
7. PARENT MEETING: Within the next week or two, I will schedule a mandatory parent meeting. The coaches will meet with all of the Storm parents and provide us with their thoughts and expectations for the year. It will also be your opportunity to ask them any questions you may have.
